i just had a epiphany.
it occured to me right after i was complaining.
and here it is:
There's no such thing as peer pressure.
that's right, you read right. i believe that ALL HUMANS DO NOT SUCCUMB TO NEEDS BECAUSE THEIR FRIENDS DO IT.
it's just placing the blame on friends. and finding a logical reason to.
let me tell you. we all do things because we want to.
we're just scared that other people will judge us.
so we do it in numbers.
groups, pairs. whatever.
as long as someone else has already done it, or is about to, we find that we can BLAME THEM for what we actually had wanted to do ourselves when we are judged.
"why the tattoo?"
"oh my friends got one too."
see?
we BLAME THE "FRIENDS" for having one, and we wanted to have one too.
we cover up the real reason, and sometimes, even trick ourselves into believing that we, too, were "forced", or "pressurized" into having a tattoo.
because, honestly?
we're scared to tell people that we wanted it.
we're scared of being judged.
so we find a reason, anything logical to explain why we are going to do it, even though we secretly wanted to do it.
another example.
"oh. my friends in sweden, they only give their kids ONE HOUR a day of computer. i think i'll do that too. (see. the reason for covering up.) i think i'll restrict my daughter's time on the computer. because she is downloading too much music. (ahh. the real reason.) and besides, my friends do it too(COVERING UP! COVERING UP!)"
SEE? we cover up, because we're afraid to admit that we want to do something that people would judge us for.
there's no such thing as peer pressure.
if you didn't want something, you wouldn't do it.
take the tattoo example, for instance.
if you didn't want to do it, you wouldn't have.
because if you REALLY didn''t want to do it, you really would not have.
see kids? they don't care.
if they don't want something, as in REALLY don't want something, they'd KICK, and SCREAM, and YELL, all in public eye.
why?
because it's not that don't care what others think.
they just REALLY don't want to do it.
"all the other kids are getting haircuts, why won't you?"
"I....DON'T........WANT!*SCREAMS*"
if you really didn't want a tattoo, nobody could drag you, kicking and screaming to the freaking parlour, right?
you secretly want one.
you're just too afraid to admit it.
see what i mean? and also,
apparently, according to adults, we shouldn't give in to this "peer pressure", right? (if it even exists, which it doesn't)
then why do they use it against us?
WHY DO THEY USE IT TO THEIR ADVANTAGE?
"honey, don't take drugs even though people in your class do it. hmm. hey, what's this? you're TEST? and you're the ONLY ONE THAT FAILED? WHY CAN'T YOU PASS, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE? WHY CAN'T YOU DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING AND PASS?
WHY CAN'T YOU FOLLOW THEM, STUDY LIKE THEM, AND PASS?"
SEE WHAT I MEAN?
"my friends have unlimited access on the computer."
"stop follwing you're friends! don't submit to peer pressure! you want to be like you're friends? or you want to be you?"
two days later.
"my friend, in sweden, only gives their kids ONE HOUR A DAY ON COMPUTER. maybe i'll do that too."
"but you're not your friend."
"i don't care. my friends do it, why can't i?"
MY FRIENDS DO IT, WHY CAN'T I?
